Oooh, this was such a fun and interesting read! I've been so excited for this movie, but didn't know about the Nicole Kidman one and ALSO didn't know Leo Woodall may be in Bridget Jones! Also, as a Gen X-er, I LOVE these references - MapQuest, Blockbuster (!!!), and I literally wore a shirt with a Peter Pan collar YESTERDAY. 😂

Great piece, Erin (as always)! I hadn't even realized that Anne Hathaway received such poor treatment online. I've always been a huge fan of hers, so I look forward to her new movie.

I was lucky enough to watch The Idea of You on the big screen in Toronto just this week and loved it. I'm looking forward to the Nicole Kidman and Renee Zellweger films.

That’s great to hear! That movie is made to be seen on the big screen.

Erin, this is so great!

So incredibly excited for The Idea of You (which I am fantastic about spreading the gospel of) -- would love more Robinne Lee books and more empowering romance books in my life! I do think Elder Millenials are a critical and weird/amazing demographic!

Any fiction book reccs? Also thrilled for the crossover with Becca Freeman as I am a Bad on Paper fan. :)

Thank you, Amanda! I can’t wait for you to see the movie — please let me know what you think! I am so here for any romance that features an actor from our generation. (The Oregon Trail generation?) I have a fiction rec!! I just picked up Emily Henry’s FUNNY STORY and love it so far. She never misses!!

Also, I have a question, maybe for you to answer in a future post: Why are two of these three about older women who end up entangled specifically with Hollywood-level stars? Are famous men (supposedly, in this universe) wise beyond their years? Are they the only ones with the balls to approach older women? Is this a Harry Styles thing specifically?

These are great questions! I think The Idea of You is a Styles thing for sure. It’s interesting that Zac Efron plays a rich, famous movie star in the Kidman movie, where she plays a powerhouse writer. I wonder if that was a way of leveling a power imbalance.

Yeah, maybe it makes it feel less creepy? Interesting that older man/younger woman couples don't require such theatrics.

I think if these movies were made years ago, Efron would be playing a barista, not a millionaire!

I have been hoping you would write about this! What a moment.
