Fabulous interview and I love that she mentioned Mona May and reclaimed “whatever” and made it her thing! This is my favorite movie so appreciate all the backstories. Also LOVE the shorts suit on you. Cher would approve!
Yes fantastic interview! And ditto to how much I love that Elisa reclaimed "whatever" and then made it iconic, and also adore the yellow shorts suit (I totally see the Julia Roberts comparison!).
One of a handful of movies I can quote, start to finish, almost verbatim—thank you for this interview! (Also, I just watched the video recap of Paul Rudd guesting on Amy Poehler's pod, and he talked about how, when he auditioned for Clueless, he had SUPER long hair that he later buzzed off, much to the shock of the casting director. They then made him wear a long wig for early test shoots. Clueless trivia junkie that I am, I thought that was so interesting!)
Thank you for reading, Gail! I adore Amy's pod! That episode was so good. It was funny how Hamm was like, "He looked like Michael Hutchence," then Paul Rudd was also like, "I looked like Michael Hutchence." Now I want to know what he looks like with long hair! And why Amy H. didn't insist he grow it out for the movie
YES! I loved them both mentioning Paul's likeness to Michael -- and how Paul had hand painted the Duran Duran "Rio" cover album on his jean jacket. HA!
Awesome Q&A! I love that it was her first movie and she didn't realize how unusual it was to have a female director. Clueless truly is a perfect movie.
I was thinking about “Emma” last night with the “Jane Austen Wrecked Me” screening and how my thoughts on this romance have evolved over time. Emma and George might be my favorite Austen romantic pairing. “Pride & Prejudice” and “Sense and Sensibility”‘side and I like Anne Elliott’s arc in “Persuasion” but there’s something about Emma’s story and heroine growth that I absolutely adore and her recognizing that her perfect partner was under her nose, knowing her intimately in her formative years in all the ways that count. It’s speaking to me at the moment.
LOVE you in that yellow linen getup, and what a fun interview this was with Elisa! (Also what a lovely surprise in the end notes--thanks for the shoutout!)
Great interview! My favorite movie podcast, Blank Check, is currently working its way through Amy Heckerling's career (they did Look Who's Talking last week). Such a fascinating career!

Fawnia!!! I'm so glad you like the I-can't-believe-it's-not-butter suit: Best compliment coming from you!
Butter yellow is the hot color for spring! I’m so into that long shorts suit situation right now, too — love it!🧈

Thank you!!!
Omg love this Erin! More clueless content please !!!
Thank you, Fran!!!

Thank you, Libby! Amy Heckerling is/was amazing. Clueless will forever be the best modern adaptation of Emma (and any Austen book for that matter!)

Thank you, Rob! And re: Blank Check, that sounds most excellent! I will be tuning in for sure
I am really enjoying Blank Check's Heckerling episodes. I can't wait for the Clueless episode!
I had NO IDEA that Look Who's Talking had so much behind-the-scenes drama!
I AM SO HERE FOR IT
Me either!!
