I like all that you're saying EXCEPT the A&E version with Firth is the best, and that includes having the best Lizzie. While I like Knightley, every time they showed her onscreen in that movie I just kept thinking...is that posed for optimal cheekbone highlights? Every. Single. Shot. seemed like it. lol
True! She was fantastic….I think I like the A&E version best, obviously because of Firth, but also because it was longer and included pretty much everything in the novel, and I love stuff like that. I’m always wondering why they cut particular parts that I love, and I think the A&E was very true to the book. I love your writing, by the way! It’s really funny and very thoughtful.
Oh, thank you so much!! And thanks for reading! I appreciate it. And I also think P&P is REALLY well suited to a TV series. Hopefully Netflix will provide more room to expand on the full plot! Also: They should bring back Firth for a cameo.
You've sold me on the Keira edition. I'm going to give it a try.
I had never gone near it as I thought it wouldn't come near the BBC version, which I adore and is some of my favourite comfort viewing. My opinion was shared by my beloved Gran, who when handed a copy of the DVD as a Christmas present one year, said the immortal words "oh good, you bought the right one!" We howled over that for years.
I’ll give you KK as the best Lizzy, though only just. but McFadyean isn’t even close to Colin Firth IMHO. And a lot of the secondary roles were done better in the BBC version, especially Mrs Bennet. But the movie did have Judi Dench and her confrontation with Lizzy in the ‘wilderness’ is the best scene in the film. Overall, it’s a draw for me.
I’ll be happy to give the Netflix version a fair chance and hope it’s done well.
But the best Austen adaptation of all is still Sense and Sensibility. Emma Thompson! Hugh Grant! Alan Rickman! Ang Lee! Emma Thompson again!
Oh, that movie is perfect. And Ang Lee directing Emma’s script was the collaboration that Austen fans had been waiting for! And Rickman as Colonel Brandon raises the bar for all other actors who’ve played that character.
its cute, a little YA-ey and the pacing felt off on the last episode. But just can't beat an enemies to lovers romance and it has some of The Great vibes if you enjoyed that.
I didn't really care about another Pride and Predjudice film until you mentioned Dev Patel. He would be such a great Mr. Darcy! Though I have no clue who would be the right Lizzy for him...
GARD the close-up of Darcy's hand after he touches Lizzy for the first time. LORD HOW SEXXY. Loved the Joe Wright version, though not immediately. It grew on me. Not sure who I'd pair for the new version but it would be nice to have a less glamorous Lizzy and a weathered-looking Darcy
ooh I thought (was hoping!) it was official Dolly was involved - agree with you, hope she ends up writing for this one. Loved the way she approached dialogue in her recent 'Good Material,' curious what she'd bring to the project

Firth is the best Darcy to ever do it!! And re: Knightley's cheekbones, they definitely knew her angles. I still can't believe she was only 19!

I agree! And THAT WOULD BE AWESOME!
Dev Patel would be a perfect Darcy. I can't unsee it now!!
AGREE. CC: Dolly Alderton!!!
The GLOAT 😂 I have high hopes if Dolly is involved. If not, all bets are off!!!
Manifesting!!!!!!

Your Gran has fabulous taste!

omg i gasped aloud at the Dev Patel as Darcy idea, inspired.
Also, allow me to encourage you to keep being a colleen hoover virgin. her books are not well written enough to spend valuable attention time on.
I loved the chemistry of the leads of My Lady Jane and since that was canceled, mayhaps they should just both jump over to Austenland?!
I will take your word for it re: CoHo!!! Also, I still need to see My Lady Jane!

Yes to Dolly!!!
Oh you had me at Dev Patel as Darcy. I wouldn’t be mad at Daryl McCormack either.
Oh, Daryl would make an excellent Darcy!!
This is fun!

Swooooooooon!
I loved this!! Great minds think alike ❤️ I was obsessed with P&P and you’re so right about casting. Love the Patel idea!!!
Thank you, Reda!!!

It seems like she is involved! Netflix just hasn't hit the green light to produce her scripts yet. (Fingers crossed!) I think she'd do great.
Oh gotcha, good to know - curious to see what happens!!
