Thank you for this DWP2 review. Saw it over the weekend and as some on who also ‘works in media,’ it left me in tears. It was a horror movie. A warning, to allude to someone’s quote, that we’re the last piece of driftwood alongside the Titanic. While obviously it was a fun, nostalgic driven watch, I couldn’t help but feel devastated as the credits rolled. Especially at Andi’s line, “perhaps I might be able to unfreeze an egg!” when darkly joking about her unstable socioeconomic future.

This sequel is absolutely heartbreaking and certainly PACKAGED as a comedy, but is really a drama wrapped up in fabulous clothing. You're not wrong to be horrified! You wouldn't be a normal and sane media professional otherwise. I want you to know that you'll be OK. You're a thinking person with a heart and soul, and a terrific writer, and because of those things, you'll always have a firm foundation to stand on, I promise you.

B/c of this, the sequel felt so much more substantive than the original. Although I don't work in media so it hits me differently.

Anyone else also slightly horrified how diet culture and body shaming was in the original? That 2006 script hits differently on the rewatch, and it's going to be some time before I let my daughter watch it.

There is no way those comments would fly in 2026! It is very very cringe to watch

How exciting being a film maker in residence! Loved the DWP2 review. I 100% need to watch it!

I feel like DWP2 will be too triggering for me! (I know, I know but I'll get around to it eventually.) Also, can we talk about The Invite?! I love the SF of it all, too.

The Invite is so good!! It's only Olivia Wilde's third movie as a director but I feel like she's been doing this her whole life. Also: I feel like Rogen is a Sudeikis stand-in?

Lara B's avatar

I love Seth Rogen's particular brand of comedy, so am excited for this as well as Olivia having a slightly less controversial for the wrong reasons film this go around as she seems like a really talented director.

Yes! I thought her direction was so good, especially since the movie mostly takes place in the apartment. I thought the same thing!! Re: Sudeikis.

Love this! And I love the idea of a Coney Island Swift/Kelce wedding!

Erin Carlson's avatar

I think that would be fun!!

I'm crossing my fingers for Ellis or Roosevelt Island.

Similarly saw it yesterday during a matinee with my mom. The theater was full and so was my heart. Loved reading Erin's take afterwards.

Love all of this! Have you seen the Olivia Rodrigo SNL Devil Wears Prada sketch?

Erin Carlson's avatar

Thank you Lauren!! And I somehow missed the Rodrigo/Prada sketch! Looking up now

I was in love with everything Andi wore this go around. Everything was gorgeous yet felt more realistic than the original. If anyone has any leads on her necklaces, please share.

Erin Carlson's avatar

I want to wear everything in her closet! I will try and source the necklace intel

Thanks for your review of 'Devil Wears Prada 2". You captured the nuance Meryl brings to her character Miranda and explain it in a thoughtful way. I love the original film and was on the fence about going to see the sequel (hard to see things you love get ruined) but you changed my mind. Thanks, Erin!

Thank you, Kate! The sequel finds Miranda and company in a drastically changed world. It is very very different from the first movie and still it’s wonderful to see everyone together again
